Title

Commonwealth Games Resistance (2010s-2014)

Description

Glasgow’s response to deindustrialisation has been to pursue market-led regeneration strategies in an attempt to attract capital to the city. The 2014 Commonwealth Games (CWG) was the latest venture in this vein. Despite claims to regenerate the East End of the city, where the Games were to be based, preparatory work involved mass displacement through the use of Compulsory Purchase Orders and mass demolition of working class neighbourhoods and community amenities, particularly in Dalmarnock.

This collection records the campaigns to resist CWG eviction and demolition, including Margaret Jaconelli’s fight to save her home, The Save the Accord Centre Campaign and work by the Games Monitor.
